STAR CRUISES

Star Cruises is the leading cruise line in the Asia-Pacific region. It was founded in September 1993 as an associate of Genting Group from Malaysia. In 2000 it acquired Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) and Orient Lines, becoming the third largest cruise line operator in the world. Star Cruises also started a new brand, Cruise Ferries, that operates short cruises in Hong Kong since 2001 but ceased its operation in 2009.

Star Cruises once had a large fleet, with new-built SuperStar Leo and SuperStar Virgo as well as some ships being transferred from other cruise lines. There were even newer and bigger ships either planned or already under construction for Star Cruises, but eventually joined the fleet of NCL due to the less-developed cruise market in Asia. Nearly all ships of Star Cruises are named after 12 zodiac signs, with the prefix of SuperStar-, Star- or MegaStar-.

Singapore and Hong Kong are two homeports of Star Cruises, with ships departing from these two ports year-round. Other seasonal itineraries include cruises from Taiwan and Malaysia. In the past there were sailings in Japan, Korea, Thailand, India, and even Australia and the Mediterranean. However such cruises were no longer operated since some of the ships left the fleet. As most of the passengers of Star Cruises are Asians, Star Cruises introduces Freestyle Cruising and many short cruises to meet their needs.
